Captain Tom Anderson spent his childhood in a coastal city adjacent to a large seaport, where he became fascinated with the maritime environment at an early age.  As a small boy, he watched ships come and go for hours, imagining their destination, cargo, and adventures.  Those countless hours stimulated his imagination and solidified his fascination with the sea.  After completing his education, he accepted a Commission a Naval officer. His Naval career took him to many exotic maritime destinations where he had the opportunity to observe and study different and unusual aspects of that world.  Those experiences were crucial in shaping his understanding of the contribution that the oceans and seas have made to the origin and evolution of our modern civilization.

In addition to researching and writing, he enjoys hosting conversations about the maritime world with students, university groups, maritime societies, and general audiences.  He also enjoys discussing the ideas and events that are changing and our world.  Doctor Anderson has created a series of original, wide ranging conversations about the Maritime World which have proven to be extraordinarily popular with cruise ship audiences.

Now retired, Tom spends his time researching, writing, and speaking about maritime topics.  His current interests include maritime geopolitics, contemporary maritime affairs, and the future of the international maritime community.

His academic achievements include an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics, a Master of Science degree and a PhD in Physics, a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Master of Public Health degree in International Health.  His hobbies include flying sailplanes, diving, woodworking, and traveling.
